TREDEGAR SQUARE
The clients commissioned the renovation of their Grade II listed Georgian townhouse in East London to create a contemporary family home with a stronger relationship to the garden and a series of distinctive internal spaces.
Rather than adopting a conventional rear box extension, the design introduces a sequence of arches that reinterpret the arched windows of the front elevation and echo the home’s original internal alcoves. This approach creates a rhythmic transition between house and garden while allowing the new interventions to sit comfortably within the building’s historic language. The arched motif is also repeated in the design of the patio doors, which have been carefully manufactured by AB Architectural Bronze with a fine and delicate profile.
The project transforms the period property into a modern, energy-efficient family home. Upgraded insulation, a heat pump, and integrated cooling systems were carefully introduced alongside new walk-in bathrooms and bespoke dressing rooms, significantly improving comfort while respecting the listed fabric.
The garden was designed as an extension of the interior, with planting, materials, and detailing developed in close collaboration with the clients to complement the internal finishes and fittings.
At the heart of the home is a bespoke oak kitchen, designed and manufactured by Andrea Felice Design. Crafted as a functional yet sculptural element, it anchors the new living spaces and reflects the project’s emphasis on material quality, craftsmanship, and contemporary domestic life
